We offer concrete pumping solutions, including ground and boom pumps, to efficiently complete repairs. Our team can also issue PRC certificates.
While we mainly cover the aforementioned types of prefab properties, these are by no means the only ones you will find around Southampton and other parts of the UK. Here, we delve into the other types of post-Second World War prefab houses and compare and contrast them with the ones mentioned above.
Design by renowned architect Sir Frederick Gibberd, the BISF (British Iron and Steel Federation) style of house was constructed across the UK from 1946 onwards. Like with the Unity house PRC repairs we do, these types of prefab properties have a permanent steel frame. The main structure consists of central steel columns that support the floor beams on the first floor. BISF houses have distinctive steel cladding that marks the point where two prefabricated halves of the building meet.
Sir Frederick Gibberd is also credited with designing Howard houses, a type of prefab house promoted by John Howard & Company, from which the name originates. Like with the Cornish house PRC repairs and Reema house PRC repairs, the PRC specialists at our PRC repair company work on, Howard houses use concrete as part of their frame, along with other materials. Displaying more of an industrial aesthetic compared to BISF houses, Howard houses combine Asbestos cement cladding with metal flashings and other elements. Regarded as one of the more innovative designs of prefab houses, less than 2000 Howard houses were built in the UK.
Named after the Scottish company that produced them, Orlit houses were designed by Erwin Katona, a Czech architect who moved to the UK in 1938. Due to the company that made them, Orlit houses are typically found in Scotland and Northern Ireland. You’re unlikely to come across one in Southampton or elsewhere in the South of England.
Characterised by a two-storey precast reinforced concrete design, the on-site construction of Orlit houses involves a foundation supported by precast concrete columns, making an almost monolithic frame. The design also includes large external-facing concrete slabs and internal foam slag blocks and breezeblocks with precast concrete and timber floors.
