Reema Houses Explained | PRC Properties

Originally designed by Salisbury-based Reed & Mallik, the Reema design was conceived in the late forties, with properties still being constructed almost thirty years later. The houses were built using prefabricated reinforced concrete panels in two forms – Conclad and Hollow Panel. These were available to the public in three distinct designs:

  • Reema House Front/Back (Terraced)

  • Reema House with Alley

  • Reema House Alley/Porch/Windows

The conclad variation is not considered defective, whereas the hollow panel version of the Reema house is. The former was built using construction methods in line with more efficient building standards, whereas the hollow panel, which was built first, lacked sufficient insulation. As a result, the main problem with these properties in Swindon, Reading, Southampton and Bristol is that they are extremely hard to heat. Due to their construction, heat doesn’t circulate adequately and escapes through the concrete exterior.

Reema House PRC Repairs | PRC Upgrades

Our PRC repair company will wrap the existing property in a layer of new brickwork, leaving the existing exterior in place. The cavity formed between the two is completely insulated, providing the necessary barrier against escaping heat. During this process, you have the option to change your current windows to uPVC materials and install patio doors. These can improve interior lighting and make your property in Swindon, Bristol, Southampton or Reading a much warmer home for you and your family.

Homeowners in current Reema properties do not have to move out during renovations and PRC upgrades, as the work carried out by our Reema house PRC repair company takes place outside. This is a major bonus as other PRC properties around the UK also require internal structural work, and we would advise against remaining at home during these works. The entire project should be completed within 3-4 weeks, and clients will receive a relevant PRC certificate.
